Senior Services Funding Available

Aurora Township is accepting applications from not-for-profit organizations and units of local government seeking $490,500 in funds for programs that benefit senior citizens.The funds are available through Aurora Township as a result of the successful March 2018 senior services referendum, said Aurora Township Supervisor Bill Catching.“We look forward to supporting organizations that will allow older adults in Aurora Township to remain healthy and independent as long as possible,” Catching said.The Township Board of Trustees has appointed an unpaid advisory commission to make recommendations on the applications, which are due by Friday October 21, 2022, to the Aurora Township Supervisor’s office, 80 N. Owens Appointed Road Commissioner

Jason Owens was appointed the Aurora Township Highway Commissioner at last week’s Board of Trustees meeting. Owens will serve the remainder of the term of Juan Reyna, who resigned last month for personal reasons.Owens, 45, of North Aurora, has worked at the Aurora Township Highway Department since 2010. He was first hired as recycling coordinator and later promoted in 2012 to serve as Deputy Commissioner. In addition, he has served as Deputy Township Clerk for many years and was appointed to fill the unexpired Township Clerk term after the passing of Ken Christy in 2016.Prior to working at the Road District, Owens worked in the mortgage industry. Highway Commissioner Vacancy

The Aurora Township Board of Trustees is seeking a Highway Commissioner to be appointed to complete the remaining term of office left by Juan Reyna. Commissioner Reyna resigned for personal reasons late last month. The current term expires May 18, 2025. The duties of the Highway Commissioner include maintenance and repair of roads and bridges in the unincorporated areas of Aurora Township. It is considered a full-time position with a salary of $81,016 and eligibility for all benefits. To be considered for the position, a candidate must be a registered Democrat currently living in the Aurora Township for the past year. State law defines a person as a registered Democrat for this purpose if they voted a Democratic ballot in the most recent primary election. Interested candidates can drop off their resumes and a letter of interest at the Aurora Township Office located at 80 N. Broadway, Aurora.
